I imagine them arranging the marriage of the two kids when suddenly Stoick learns that Merida doesn't want Hiccup and Fergus learns that Hiccup doesn't want Merida. So Hiccup and Merida choose to agree whereas Fergus and Stoick fight both with the kids and with each other.
